Is it compulsory to have a 9 to 5 in this modern time? As we step into society after completing our education a ‘job’ is one major topic we all are concerned about because the majority of our future things depend on the job we choose. Some of us reach our dream jobs while some of us choose a career job that is different from what we dreamt of. But when considering jobs, mainly there are 2 types of jobs in society: 9-5 jobs and entrepreneurial jobs.

What’s the difference between these two types?

A 9-5 job is just 8 hours but an entrepreneurial job has no compulsory time duration for the day. This is the most significant difference for someone who notices.

Let’s analyze each of these separately to see the good and bad each offer.

9 to 5 Jobs

When considering a 9-5 job, it is an 8-hour job that provides us with a fixed salary. We know our monthly income so we could schedule our monthly budget accordingly. Since it’s just an 8-hour job we have more time to spend on our loved ones. This helps you to balance your work and home life. Also, it is stress-free as you know you are stable financially which in other terms is defined as job security. Considering these facts, a 9-5 job is a golden ticket. But just as a coin has two sides, so does every other thing.

In this type of job, you are not a free person unless your job title says “creative …” or unless you are at a considerably higher rank. This limits your creativity and independence. You will have to follow the given set of instructions/orders most of the time and not use your own ideas.

Entrepreneurial Jobs

But if we step into the other category of entrepreneurial jobs, we are not bossed around by anyone. This also means you are free and independent to innovate your ideas and plans. They would help you grow as you figure out your strengths and weaknesses. You can live a free life where you are not framed up for some specific period/work hours.

But as for the bad, you are the owner which means you have to bear your loss or profit. It also would lead you to less family time. You might be thinking why less family time. I just mentioned that you are not framed up for a specific period. Well, that’s the exact reason you would have less family time.

starting your own business instead of a 9 to 5

As we start our own business we wouldn’t succeed within the first year or at least half a year. We have to put up a lot of time and energy to come up with plans to keep the business going. Once it succeeds you’re still going to be busy trying to profit more – unless you are a person whose priority is creativity and independence. So counting them you would be having less family time. And the main thing is you have no exact idea about the monthly income apart from estimating the amount considering the per month’s income – which is quite a trouble to plan our financial needs.

Now that we’ve analyzed the two job types we have a clear understanding of the good and bad each would give us. Most of us would ultimately love the concept of entrepreneurial businesses. And it is not compulsory to have a 9 to 5 job. But my advice for you is to work in a 9-5 platform for at least 1 or 2 years and collect experiences and knowledge about the field first. Then you can use them to start your own business which I think has a very high possibility of success.
